Praying for Vocations with the Saints of our Isles

July – We pray with St David for all our Bishops

David is the Patron Saint of Wales and was born in South Wales in about AD600.  He founded a monastery at Menevia and is honoured as the first bishop of the place now called St Davids.

Let us Pray

God our Father, you gave the Bishop David to the Welsh Church to uphold the faith and to be an example of Christian perfection.  In this changing world may he help us to hold fast to the values which bring eternal life.   Amen

The last week of the school year is upon us and even next weekend a number of parishioners will have already left for their summer holidays. The next few weeks will see people coming and going and it won’t be until the beginning of September that we will all be gathered together again, hopefully feeling renewed and refreshed!

Fr Eddy will be away on the Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes at the end of this month and for a week at the beginning of August.

Welcome Leaflet

We are working on producing a ‘welcome leaflet’ for our church and parish. We would like to be able to welcome people in the many different languages that are used in our parish. A first draft of the leaflet is displayed on the notice-board next to the newspaper stand, but we realise that there are other languages that we still need to add.

Can you help? Please write clearly in your own language and leave a contact telephone number or e-mail address so that we can check details of spelling etc. Thank you.

Sea Sunday

Next weekend (11/12 July) we will take the Sea Sunday collection which supports the work of the Apostleship of the Sea. The Day for Life collection has been rescheduled for later in the summer - details will follow in due course.

Living Ministry Course

Starting September 2009.  The course is for all adults interested in exploring their faith – and for those involved in areas of ministry such as teaching, catechists, Eucharistic ministers, parish pastoral councils youth work etc.

The course is being offered at two venues – The Diocesan Centre at Mackworth and in Lincoln.  If you are interested please contact the Diocesan Centre Living Ministry Administrator: Janet Hornsby on 01332 293833 Ext 820.

Cheese and Wine Evening

Many thanks to everyone who supported this event, either by attending or giving a donation. Together we raised the wonderful amount of £807 for the LOROS Hospice extension.

Memorial to Fr Joe Carty

One of our parishioners recently spotted a memorial cross dedicated to Fr Joe Carty near Ponferrada which is on the road to Santiago di Compostella in Spain. You may remember that Fr Joe died whilst making a pilgrimage there in 2005. It is good to know that he will continue to be remembered and prayed for by other pilgrims who pass that way.

A photograph of the memorial is displayed on the main notice-board.

Father Andrew

We received a parcel recently from Father Andrew in Zimbabwe. He sent us a DVD with photos and music from his parish. Hopefully there will be an opportunity to show it to the parish, probably after the holidays.

However, if anyone wants to borrow it in the meanwhile for viewing at home please ask Fr Eddy. We also received a gift made by hand by Fr Andrew’s mother.  It is currently on display next to the statue of Our Lady on the sanctuary so that all parishioners can see it.  We will restore the banner with St Peter at the end of the holiday season.
