Saints of the Week

Wednesday 27 September 2017
St Vincent de Paul (1581 - 1660)

He was born in Aquitaine and became a priest. He devoted his whole life to the service of the poor. He founded a congregation of priests for missionary work, groups of laymen to help paupers and galley-slaves, and, with St Louise de Marillac, the Sisters of Charity.

Friday 29 September 2017
St Michael

He is mentioned in the Apocalypse as the leader of the heavenly host. He is a patron of soldiers.

St Gabriel

He appears in the book of Daniel to explain some of the prophet’s visions, and was also the bearer of the Annunciation to the Blessed Virgin Mary.

St Raphael

In the Book of Tobit, he is the angel who heals Tobit of his blindness. His name means God heals.

Please pray for our young people who will receive the Sacrament of Confirmation on Tuesday 26 September at 7.00pm.

Due to the number of candidates, the church is likely to be filled with family and friends.  Hopefully there will be another occasion before too long when the parish will get the chance to meet Bishop Patrick.

The family of 5 year old Alexander Moroz, who died in a tragic accident recently.  And for Kathleen Ennis who died recently.  May they rest in peace.

Sacramental Initiation for Adults

This concerns adults who as yet have not received any or all of the Sacraments of initiation; Baptism, Confirmation and Holy Communion.  The reception of these Sacraments normally takes place in the Easter season, after candidates have been instructed and prepared over a number of months.

7 Instruction Sessions will take place before Christmas, beginning in November.  Please see Fr John Cahill for details.

This week we commemorate the anniversaries of two former Parish Priests – Fathers Carty and Jones.  Mass will be offered for them on the relevant dates.

Hymn Books

You may have noticed that we have insufficient hymn books at some of the Masses and that they are getting rather tatty, despite efforts to preserve them.  Before we consider investing in replacements, I would invite you to join in a consultation as to the repertoire of hymns that we might wish to find in our parish hymn book.  Please find the relevant form at the back of church, to be returned to Fr John or the Parish Office as soon as possible.

National Eucharistic Congress 2018

The Bishops’ Conference has launched a major initiative, which will culminate with a Congress at the beginning of September 2018 in Liverpool. We are looking for 5 delegates to represent the parish at this important event.  Please let Fr John know if you would be willing to attend.
