20th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Would Youth Day 2008
World Youth Day 2008

Thank you to Fr David and Ian Goodrich for sharing their experiences of participating in this years World Youth Day in Australia . For those of you who missed the talk, WYD is a week-long series of events attended by the Pope and hundreds of thousands of young people from all over the globe. It has become the largest single mobilisation of young people in the world. The week culminated in a Final Mass celebrated by the Pope on the last day (the actual World Youth Day).

World Youth Day is an invitation from the Pope to the youth of the world to celebrate their faith around a particular theme. The WYD08 theme, received from Pope Benedict XVI is: 'You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will be my witnesses.' (Acts 1:8) This passage occurs after the death and resurrection of Jesus, just before his ascension to the Father. It represents the birth of the Church.

The WYD08 logo distils the essence of the theme for WYD08 and highlights the promise made by Jesus to set fire upon the Earth by the power of the Holy Spirit which inspires the pilgrims who come to Australia , to believe and witness to Him.

Public Exams

Congratulations to all our parishioners who received A Level results this week. We pray that your plans and dreams for the future bear much fruit. We pray also for those who wait for their GCSE results later this week.

Thank You

Maria would like to thank everyone who came to her 60th Birthday Party.

Fr Wojtek

We have received an Email from Jerusalem and he sends his best wishes to everyone.

Notice Boards

You may have spotted that the notice-boards have been re-arranged. Rotas and details of organisations can now be found on the “middle” board, with upcoming events appearing on the main board as usual.

The young people’s displays are on the right-hand board near the door, whilst the board over the bookcase will be used for ‘special occasions’ in the parish, such as First Holy Communion displays.

If you wish to have any posters advertising forthcoming events displayed, please hand them into the presbytery by Thursday evening, as the notice-boards are updated each Friday.
