World Day of Prayer for Vocations

“Oh that today, you would listen to His Voice.

Harden not your hearts”

Today the Church throughout the world prays for vocations. Will you make a special effort to ask the Lord for more vocations to the priesthood and religious life?

  • Pray for the priests who have ministered to you throughout your life, both living and dead.
  • Keep our parish priests in your prayers throughout the week.
  • Encourage your children, grandchildren, or other young people to consider a vocation as a priest or religious brother or sister.
  • Pray a rosary for more young men and women of our diocese to respond to God’s call.
  • Join in our Parish Holy Hour for Vocations on the 1st Saturday of each month at 5.30pm.
  • Take a moment to look at our Vocations section of the Notice-boards in the porch where you will find details of who to contact regarding Vocations to the priesthood and religious life

There will be a 2nd Collection at all Masses this weekend for the Clergy Formation Fund.

This Fund supports both our seminarians and  the continuing formation of our diocesan clergy.

Hospital Information

If you are going into hospital for treatment you are advised to let your parish priest know beforehand.  It is often appropriate to receive the Sacrament of Anointing (Sacrament of the Sick) before admission into hospital.

If you or a family member is in hospital for a period of time and would like pastoral support from the Church, let your priest and hospital chaplains know.

Christina Mottram is the official Catholic chaplain for The Glenfield Hospital, the Leicester General Hospital and the Mental Health Units; and Josephine Feeney-McKay is the official Catholic chaplain for the Leicester Royal infirmary.

It is important that Catholics take the initiative in requesting pastoral care. This will ensure that their needs are met and will also help to make doctors and nurses aware of the importance of the Faith to Catholic patients.

Contact details for chaplaincy are LRI 2585487; LGH 2584243; Glenfield 2583413 email chaplaincy@uhl-tr.nhs.uk Community hospitals and Mental Health Unit 2294055. Email chaplaincy@leicspart.nhs.uk

May Devotions

During May, the Rosary will be recited in church half an hour before Mass and the Litany of Loreto will be sung before Benediction on Thursday evenings and after the Latin Mass on Saturday morning.

Thank You

Many thanks to Jacob Szmega and his friend Seth who have put in many hours work voluntarily polishing the church floor as part of their Duke of Edinburgh Award.

Altar Serving

We have been very blessed in recent months with good numbers of young people coming forward to serve at the altar.  Fr John would welcome a young adult who has been well trained and has good serving experience to offer some guidance and training to the servers who help at the 11.15am Mass.  Please see Fr John if you would be interested in taking on this role.

Liam Carpenter, once of this parish, has received confirmation from Bishop McKinney that his petition to be ordained has been accepted. The ordination is due to take place at 11.30am on Saturday 6 July, at St Barnabas Cathedral, Nottingham. Please keep Liam in your prayers.
